Hallo and welcome to Year 10 German classes at East Otago.
This year will be developing your German language skills in the context of a variety of topics such as:
· Sport and Leisure
· Family and pets
· House and home
· School
· Holidays and customs
· Food and drink
Language learning relies on 4 main skills. These are Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. Listening and Reading are receptive skills, and Speaking and Writing are productive skills.
By the end of this year, you should be able to use these skills to:
2.1 Communicate about relationships between people
2.2 Communicate about ownership
2.3 Communicate about likes and dislikes, giving reasons where appropriate
2.4 Communicate about time, weather, and seasons
2.5 Communicate about physical characteristics, personality, and feelings
3.1 Communicate, including comparing and contrasting about habits and routines
3.2 Communicate about events and where they take place
3.3 Give and follow directions
3.4 Communicate, including comparing and contrasting, about how people travel
4.1 Offer, ask for, accept and decline things, invitations, and suggestions
4.2 Communicate about plans for the immediate future
4.3 Communicate about obligations and responsibilities
4.4 Give and seek permission
4.5 Communicate about the quality, quantity, and cost of things
This programme of levels 2, 3 and 4 will help you build a foundation for Level One NCEA German.
Vocabulary is an important part of learning a language and you will have to learn set vocabulary each week through the computer programme Languagenut (link below). This vocabulary homework will be set each Friday and you will be tested each Friday. If you are having difficulty with the programme or computer access you need to see me during our Wednesday lesson before the test on Friday.
Remember, the more you put in the more you will enjoy success and a feeling of progress. I look forward to working with you.
